How many lawn treatments do I need?

One of the most common lawn care questions we hear has to do with how many service visits need to be performed.

We understand that homeowners get hung up on the number of visits being performed since many lawn care companies even use this as a marketing tactic. They’ll boast about how many lawn care visits they include in their package. But that number is meaningless if they aren’t performing the services that your lawn needs.

Unfortunately, some companies are even misleading about what’s included each time that they visit. This is what we’re talking about when we say that you need to overlook the “marketing noise” that can distract you from what’s really important.

Ultimately, what’s really important is what is included in each lawn care visit.

It’s important that your lawn care program includes the different lawn care services that your lawn requires at different times of the year. We will dive into this in more detail in the next section.

For this reason, it’s important that you don’t use the number of lawn care visits as a point of comparison when trying to choose a lawn care provider. It’s a meaningless number unless you know what’s being done.

At Grassperson, we include seven strategically timed lawn care visits in our program. These are ideally spaced out to provide your lawn with all of the individual product applications needed from early spring through late fall. Most importantly, we are making sure that your lawn is getting everything it needs at the key times of the year that it’s needed.

What should be included in your lawn care program?

As we’ve mentioned, understanding what’s included in your lawn care program is the most important consideration.

A lawn care company that offers a thorough lawn care program should be able to offer services addressing the following:

These are some of the most important services that your lawn will need and you want to make sure that they are incorporated into any lawn care program that you are considering.

Of course, every lawn is different, so you want to work with a company that is going to develop a customized solution that fulfills your lawn’s specific needs.

As we’ve mentioned, there is optimal timing for each of these services and you want to make sure that they are performed when they’re needed.

Different times of the year will make various lawn services more vital, as well. And the rate of product application will also change. All of this can get a little bit confusing but a lawn care expert will understand what your lawn needs and how to apply it.

Understanding how much a lawn care program costs

When deciding between different lawn treatment plans, there is often an inclination to compare lawn care program pricing.

But you should know this is a slippery slope and again can be meaningless information if you don’t fully understand what you are getting for your investment.

Pricing can be a tactic that some lawn care companies will use to try and market themselves as better than other companies. For instance, they might advertise a very low price to rope-in new customers. But sometimes this turns out to be a marketing gimmick. That low price is only for the first visit.

Sometimes a lawn care program seems cheaper at one company than another because it’s missing important lawn care services that you need. This is why you must do your due diligence and understand what services you are getting for your investment. If you have to add-on a lot of extra services later, it might not be the real “value” you thought you’d found.

Comparing lawn care programs based on cost alone is also problematic as there are many factors that impact cost which need to be weighed. For instance, a company that charges less for their lawn care program might be able to do so because they’re skimping on the products they use. As you might imagine, high-quality lawn care products cost more money.

Similarly, some companies might cut back on hiring quality technicians or purchasing top-of-the-line equipment. All of this might make your lawn care package cheaper, but you’re sacrificing results!

At the end of the day, what you really need to compare is the value that you’re receiving for your investment.

As with anything in life, it ultimately comes down to the age-old adage that you “get what you pay for.” Paying a little more for lawn care doesn’t mean that you’re getting ripped off. Instead, it likely means that you’re paying for better quality and ultimately better results.

How to look at lawn care websites

As you aim to choose a lawn care program, you’ll want to take time to research the different lawn care companies offering these services.

These days, we have the Internet at our fingertips, giving us access to a lot of information about the different companies out there. This can make researching your options easier (though we understand so much information can also be overwhelming).

Our recommendation is to spend time on each lawn care company’s website and learn more about them.

Take some time to learn about the people behind the company as well as the company’s history and experience.

You’ll obviously also want to look at the services offered and what’s included.

Make a list of the companies that you’re considering and don’t hesitate to reach out to them if you have more questions. This is another great way to learn more about what your experience will be like with any given lawn care service.
