As someone who is looking to have the best lawn on the block, you might be interested in hiring a lawn care professional that can help you achieve the results you desire. What you may not know is just how important choosing the best company will be in terms of your success. The truth is, not all lawn care companies are the same in Flower Mound, Highland Village, and Lewisville, TX.
You don’t feel like wasting time with a lawn service in North Texas that’s not going to deliver the best which is why you’re taking the time now to research your options. To help simplify that process for you, we’ve been comparing companies in the region that are commonly considered.
Should you go with the big name you ran across such as Weed Man because you’ve heard it before? Or, is a local lawn care company a better choice?
We understand that choosing a lawn care company is no simple feat so we’re helping to produce an honest and fair comparison between Weed Man and Grassperson so that you can filter out some of the advertising noise and get to the heart of what matters—your spectacular lawn.
Weed Man is a national franchise. It got its start in Canada in 1970 and began franchising there in 1976. In 1996, the company expanded into the United States. Their national website says that Weed Man features over “500 unit territories servicing over 400,000 customers.”
While it is a national company, each local franchisee operates on its own. That means there can be differences from branch to branch. Though you’ll find consistency in their marketing materials, when it comes to branch performance, you need to dig in and look at it on a branch-to-branch basis. There is not any rigid compliance from one branch to the next.
Our local branch is Weed Man North Dallas Fort Worth, TX, which appears to be located in Argyle. However, the company only has a post office box number and we are uncertain as to their exact location. Even so, we can still provide some sense of how their program compares to ours.
Obviously, the biggest difference is in the company make-up. Grassperson is not part of the franchise system and we do not have hundreds of branches. What you see is what you get here. We are a local, family-owned business and we really know North Texas lawns. Because of that, we also take a highly customized approach to lawn care.
Another key difference has to do with our teams.
When you hire a lawn care company, you are ultimately partnering with people in order to help your lawn look its best. At Grassperson, we have long-tenured team members who have been with our company for many years and have really gotten to know our customers. While the local franchise of Weed Man could have the same benefit, it’s honestly impossible to know based on their website which mostly has stock photography. They do have one group photo but no opportunity to get to know who the team is.
Of course, another key comparison is what each company has to offer in terms of their lawn care. Based upon their website, it appears that Weed Man has one “Basic Program,” which includes 7 applications and features fertilization, weed control, and grub prevention. Then all other services appear to be upsells which can be added on.
Grasspeson, on the other hand, is focused on giving homeowners options. That’s why we have 3 lawn care programs that people can choose from, based on their needs. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We’ve created packages that intentionally include the primary services that homeowners may need, depending upon their specific lawn as well as their expectations.
We also provide the Total Maintenance Package, for homeowners who truly want a worry-free property, within a limited service area. This includes everything that a homeowner might need to help their property become the best on the block.
Online reviews are naturally a place to turn as people look to compare lawn care companies and we commend that effort. It can help you gain a sense of what others think about a particular company or their service.
When someone leaves an online review, they have the chance to use a 5-star scale rating system and also share some of their thoughts. We advise looking for a company with a 4.5-star rating or higher and reading through some of these comments. Keep in mind that it becomes harder to maintain a higher rating with more reviewers. Therefore both the rating and the number of reviews are important. Here is a comparison of Grassperson reviews vs. Weed Man reviews (updated February 2022):
4.9 stars based on over 240 reviews
3.8 stars based on 120 reviews
We understand that it’s important to you that you choose wisely when selecting a lawn care company. After all, going forward, you want a worry-free experience that results in an awesome lawn. The last thing that you want is to end up back at the drawing board comparing companies and trying to find one that will get you the results you’ve been seeking.
It shouldn’t have to feel like a fruitless search. You deserve to have a company that’s going to meet your needs.
By putting some time into understanding what you’re getting, you can feel confident that you’re making a wise choice. In the end, that will mean you’re happy with not only the company you’ve selected but the fantastic results they’re producing.
